Welcome To Bob Gruen's Home on the Web

Green Day Europe June 2010
Green Day played to some big stadium crowds when I saw them in London, Dublin and Paris.
Joan Jett opened for them and it was the best rockin' time I've seen in years!

Joan had the crowd loudly singing along to 'I Love Rock & Roll' and all her other hits.

Billie Joe in London at Wembley in front of 71,000 people, the biggest show Green Day ever headlined.

Green Day acknowledges the wildly cheering fans at Wembley

Billie Joe comes offstage knowing he had the audience in the palm of his hand all night.

Backstage Green Day partied with Joan Jett and were joined by long time Green Day fan Serena Williams.

On a night off in Dublin some of the group went to the Vicar Club to see Blondie. Drummer Clem Burke told Tré that someone had given him what were said to be 'Keith Moon's boots'......and he was trying to find out if that was true.

The fans in Dublin were very energetic and many very young but they knew what they wanted and sang along to all the songs.

Billie is ready to go, heading to the stage in Dublin.

As he usually does, Billie Joe brought a girl from the audience to sing with the band, and in Dublin of all places he found a girl dressed as a nun.

The 'nun' sang so well Billie Joe gave her a kiss.
Her name is Charmaine Haughton.

Those aren't really TV's, just one of the great graphics that form a backdrop for the show.

A close-up of Billie Joe's guitar.

At the very end of the show, just as Billie Joe sang "here comes the rain again/ falling from the stars/drenched in my pain again/becoming who we are" a light rain began to fall on the field in Dublin.

A light rain and the right lights make for a great photo.

Billie Joe waves good night to the Dublin fans.

Then the band gets a quick plane ride to Paris.

Paramore opened several of the shows on the Green Day tour including Paris and singer Hayley Williams led the band and got the crowd on their feet and jumping.

Backstage before the show Billie Joe posed for a photo to thank Legs McNeil for sending him a T-shirt of the cover of Legs' book, Please Kill Me' - the oral history of punk rock.

It was very impressive to see 60,000 people in Paris' Parc des Princes ecstatically waving their hands in the air and cheering.

Mike Dirnt keeps the music exploding and exciting.

One of the great rock drummers, Tré Cool is also one of the funniest.

Tré gets out from behind the drums to show off his dancing skills.

When a band enjoys what they do the audience enjoys the show, and Green Day is obviously having a great time, so their fans have a great time too.

Billie Joe gives his all and stays true.

The show in Paris comes to a close with a hot climax.

As Billie Joe sang the last song, the fans in the front all held up homemade signs saying 'THANKS'. No one in the band or crew had ever seen this kind of mass sign of appreciation from an audience before..

I had a great time traveling with Green Day for a few days and I got to hang out with my old friend Joan Jett, watching the show at Wembley with her from the side of the stage.

At Wembley I also caught up with another old friend, Sex Pistol Glen Matlock who was there with his wife and two kids, all true rock fans.
