Spring/Summer 2009 Update

Here's a sample of places I've been,and events I've enjoyed from May to September, with people such as Yoko Ono, Fema Kuti, Iggy Pop, Bebe Buell, Green Day, Pretenders, Brothers of Brazil and lots more!

May 11 - At Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's New York Annex, curator Jim Henke and Yoko Ono support peace at the opening of a new exhibit. Made with help from Yoko and titled "John Lennon: The New York City Years" it's well worth a visit.

A photo of me at the opening in front of the display of the T-shirt I gave to John Lennon for the now famous photo I took in 1974, now at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex. The show features many original writings and artwork by Lennon, as well as inspiring videos.

Musician Merlo Podlewski came to New York for a visit and we had time for a photo session.

June 4 - Fema Kuti performs at Irving/Fillmore with his band and singers and dancers rockin' it African style!

June 6 - Hunter Mountain was host to the Allman Brothers during the Mountain Jam Festival, a great three day annual event.

June 8th - DeeDee Ramone's ex wife Vera with Marky Ramone at the party for Vera's book 'Poisoned Heart'.

June 10th - Sandra Bernhard performs her very funny one woman show 'Without You I'm Nothing' at Town Hall.

June 10th - Nov 30 - The Museum of Modern Art opened an exhibition called 'Looking at Music'. The theme: how media interacted with music in New York in the 1970's. I was invited to create a 'Teenage Bedroom Wall' installation. I made a collage of my photos from magazines and posters, over 22 feet long for the exhibit.

June 18 - Alejandro Escavaera performs with his band at City Winery, the cool new venue in the lower West Village.

June 18 - Pete Yorn showed a tender quiet side at his sold out show at Joe's Pub.

June 22 - The New York Dolls continued their long-running tour at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

June 24 - Iggy Pop was interviewed by New York Times critic Ben Ratcliff at the New York Times Talks series. He was very articulate and open.

June 24 - Bebe Buell performs songs from her new album 'Sugar' at Hiro Ballroom.

July 1 - Liv Tyler celebrated her birthday with her mom Bebe Buell at The Jane hotel's new ballroom lounge.

July 5 - Singer Laura Cantrell performed at the Mystery Place in Phoenica, NY owned by writer/photographer Laura Levine (on right above)

July 5 - Michael Lang and Holly George-Warren signed copies of their new book about Michael's adventures organizing the great Woodstock Festival in 1969

July 21 - The Mighty Boosh comedy team from England performs at Bowery Ballroom.

Aug 10 - The incredibly sexy/tough Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders perform at the Summerstage in Central Park on a hot summer night.

Aug 18 - Dennis Dunaway, Keith Roth & Glen Matlock at the Love and Rockets tribute show at the Ben Sherman store. They both joined Keith's band Frankenstein 3000 - and David Johansen sang a few songs too, with Tish and Snooky backing them up!

Sept 2 - Levon Helm showed he has lots of energy at Central Park Summerstage.

Sept 5 - Brian Wilson was one of the major acts playing at the Electric Picnic Music and Art Festival in Ireland.

Sept 6 - I give a photo talk about my career in Rock Photography at the Electric Picnic Music and Art Festival. A large well run festival with a huge variety of things for people to do and see.

I found this little home made tent with some locals jamming and dancing at the festival.

A performance artist group from San Francisco at the festival.

I met Dublin born photographer John Minihan at the Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland. He spoke about his photos of Samuel Beckett and Francis Bacon.

I posed for a photo with my host BP Fallon & the great rock manager Frank Murray.

Sept 8 - David Hershkovits & Anna Sui at Paper Magazine's 25th Anniversary party at the New York Public Library.

Liza Minnelli sings New York, New York at the Paper Magazine party.

Sept 14 - Supla, my friend from Brazil, and his brother Joao - aka 'Brothers of Brazil' came to New York to promote their new album and TV show.

Sept 17th - Yoko Ono unveiled a new line of clothes for the 'Three As Four' line with a fashion show that included a version of her famous 'Cut Piece' with models cutting the center model's clothes off.

Sept 16 - Johnny T, Jesse Malin & Ryan Adams got together in September to record a new album. Ryan was in town making paintings for a charity auction and also for a reading from his new book at the New York Public Library.

Sept 16 - French band The Plastiscines, (left to right) Katty Besnard, Louise Basilien, Anaïs & Marine Neuilly stopped in New York on a recent tour of the US.
