Sao Paulo, Brazil – May 2007 – I had a great time on my trip to Sao Paulo to oversee the installation of my photos at FAAP. I went to some rock clubs and met people on the scene there. I felt very comfortable in Sao Paulo and many times I was reminded of the feeling of New York in the 1970’s when things were more DIY and people believed in themselves and had fun.

I deeply miss my friend Joe Strummer. He was the strongest of men, a real inspirational leader, a guy who never seemed to tire of listening to people and talking to them, learning and teaching all the time. While I was there I saw a Sean Lennon show, then on the way back to NY, I stopped in Iceland to see Sean lead his mom Yoko Ono’s show: then on to San Francisco for a Buffalo Springfield show and home for my birthday party; then Keith Richards interview at the NY Library and later, in November, I was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame! Quite… read more →
This fall has been one of my busiest times. Following the very successful ‘Rockers’ exhibition at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York, and the opening of an exhibition in Mexico City and then another at the Liss Gallery in Toronto, I went to Paris, London, Los Angeles and back to Mexico to promote my new book ‘New York Dolls – Photographs by Bob Gruen’. There were book signings and more openings, a big birthday party and great live shows… read more →
