I was asked to be on a panel about Rock Photography at the SXSW festival so I went to Austin for the first time this year. More than 2000 bands play there over 5 days, most of them more than once, so it’s a circus of music overload. If you see 10 shows a day you still miss 490! I managed to have a great time seeing mostly old friends and some new ones too.
This fall has been one of my busiest times. Following the very successful ‘Rockers’ exhibition at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York, and the opening of an exhibition in Mexico City and then another at the Liss Gallery in Toronto, I went to Paris, London, Los Angeles and back to Mexico to promote my new book ‘New York Dolls – Photographs by Bob Gruen’. “The NY Dolls played a sensational comeback show! They’ve never played better! The Kings of New York!” So said the rave reviews in the London papers after their first show in almost 30 years.
