Aug 27 – Liverpool, England –  I was in Liverpool for the opening of a permanent exhibition of my photos at the Beatles Story Museum. Also unveiled was a piano used by John Lennon that had just arrived from New York. Here at the press conference I’m with May Pang, Museum director Martin King, and John Lennon’s half sister Julia Baird.

After taking portrait photos of John Lennon's face on the roof of Lennon's New York apartment, I decided to take more photos for publicity.  I had given John a NYC T-shirt a year earlier and with the skyline all around I asked John if he still had it as this would be the perfect place to wear it.  John went and put it on to make this now iconic photo.

By the mid ’70s he was already regarded as one of the foremost documenters of the scene working with major attractions such as John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Kiss etc., and also covering the emerging New Wave and Punk bands including The New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones & Blondie.
