From my birthday party in the fall to a great exhibition opening in the Spring, it’s been a very good few months filled with great times: Billie Joe Armstrong and Debbie Harry, Lez Zeppelin, Patti Smith, The Sundance Festival (for skiing), then to LA to photograph Gene Simmons, and to Austin for SXSW and ending with an opening at Pop International Galleries with Jim Jarmusch and Allison Mosshart in New York…see below.

I was asked to be on a panel about Rock Photography at the SXSW festival so I went to Austin for the first time this year. More than 2000 bands play there over 5 days, most of them more than once, so it’s a circus of music overload. If you see 10 shows a day you still miss 490! I managed to have a great time seeing mostly old friends and some new ones too.
A lot happened in the fall of 2009, starting with a trip to London and Paris, where I’ll be having exhibitions in the coming year. October saw my birthday party and the opening of the ‘Who Shot Rock & Roll’ photo show at the Brooklyn Museum, with Blondie playing at the opening party. Also check out David Bryan, Bob Dylan, Lenny Kravitz, Butch Walker, and more…..see below!
This fall has been one of my busiest times. Following the very successful ‘Rockers’ exhibition at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York, and the opening of an exhibition in Mexico City and then another at the Liss Gallery in Toronto, I went to Paris, London, Los Angeles and back to Mexico to promote my new book ‘New York Dolls – Photographs by Bob Gruen’. There were book signings and more openings, a big birthday party and great live shows… read more →
